Take advantage of your stay to experience the summer excitement of Montreal, city of festivals, circuses and shows. We offer an excursion that will include a visit to the Saint-Armand paper mill and a visit to Old Montreal.
Departure from Bishop's University will be at 12:00; a light meal will be given to you to eat on the bus. David Carruthers will welcome you to Papeterie Saint-Armand around 2 pm for a guided tour of about an hour’s duration. This is a unique opportunity to see the traditional process of handmade papermaking. Recognized the world over, Papeterie Saint-Armand is one of the last manufacturers of handmade paper made from fabric scraps of cotton or linen.
Around 3:30 pm, we’ll head over to Old Montreal.
At Pointe-à-Callière, the birthplace of the city of Montreal, you can enjoy the services of a guide who will tour the main historical attractions while briefly explaining the city’s history, if you wish. The guide’s accompaniment lasts one hour.
You will then have until 7:45 pm to freely visit the many sites that Old Montreal offers.
Take the opportunity to stroll along the shores of the St. Lawrence River, the only Seaway that connects the ocean to the Great Lakes, or to see the Clock Tower, the Town Hall, the 18th century fortifications that demarcated the first City of Montreal, the former Grey Nuns convent, etc. You will have in hand a map of Old Montreal.
Return departure from Pointe-à-Callière to Bishop's University at 8:00 pm sharp.
