Dry Brushing the Romans and Flames

The first few days we will focus on the Roman Capitals based on the magnificent inscription on the Trajan column in Rome which is one of the most important letterforms for calligraphers, therefore essential to understand the basis of all further letterforms. My own approach to these letters is a little different and I believe one of the possibilities of how the letters were written on the stone. After tons of geometrical letters I think my innovative Flame script will be a relief... The brush is a soft tool and though it requires total focus, self-confidence, and patience, it creates marvelous traces of colours and textures. My dry brush technique goes so well with the Flame script. It’s strokes make a beautiful rhythm, forcing your brush to start dancing on its edges - and so the joy begins! The subtle lines and soft touches of the brush will change your views of how calligraphy exercises should be - light and soft. In this workshop the dry brush will be explored on my Flame script variations, blending colours and 3D effects. We will do some embossing in order to create your unique final artwork. Five great days of joy!

This class will be taught in English. This instructor speaks both English and French.
