Inspiration Behind the Rendez-vous Logo
June 1st, 2018We were delighted to unveil the branding for Rendez-vous 2019 earlier this summer. The logo was created by Italian calligrapher Massimo Pollelo, with numerals by conference director Marco Chioini. We asked Massimo to share a few words about the creation of this dynamic logo.
For a logo to be effective, it must first attract attention and evoke images before conveying its literal message. A logo for an international calligraphy conference must above all, in my opinion, visually communicate a belonging to a collective passion and the sense of celebration and joy in sharing it, even before thinking of the letterforms themselves. This is expressed through the rhythm of the line and the dance of forms in space. So, to convey this clearly, I have used a good flowing ink, a flexible pen used for musical notation and coated paper.
I focused mainly on these elements in the design of the logo. I would also add that some strokes as in the extension of the letter "V", as a long welcoming arm, serve a purpose to underline the notion of an “invitation”, a return to the table, where nationality, sex and race are no longer important.
